Laut Lukather befindet sich das Projekt derzeit noch in einem extrem frühen Stadium („fötales Stadium“). Das Material sei musikalisch hochkomplex und weise fast schon progressive Züge auf. Es sei jedoch nicht das Ziel, ein typisches Van-Halen-Album zu kreieren, bei dem einfach ein neuer Frontmann in die Fußstapfen von David Lee Roth oder Sammy Hagar tritt. Aktuell sind Alex Van Halen und Lukather auf der Suche nach einem passenden Sänger, der dieselbe musikalische Ära und Tiefe teilt. Der ursprüngliche Wunschkandidat Paul Rodgers (Free, Bad Company) musste das Angebot aufgrund von Alters- und Gesundheitsgründen schweren Herzens ablehnen.

Lukather emphasized that the highly complex and somewhat progressive material is currently in its earliest ("fetal") stages. He noted that the project is not intended to be a traditional Van Halen record where a new singer is simply dropped into the roles previously held by David Lee Roth or Sammy Hagar. The duo is currently searching for a suitable vocalist who shares their generational musical background, after their top choice, iconic singer Paul Rodgers (Free, Bad Company), respectfully declined due to age and health constraints.
