Gegründet im Jahr 2023 als Duo, wuchsen Shrineburner nach der Veröffentlichung ihrer 2024er-EP Solitude durch die Neuzugänge CJ Johnson (Bass) und Edward Hamel (Schlagzeug) zu einem Trio heran. Originally formed in 2023 as a two-piece creative outlet for Norman and original drummer Brent Favata—resulting in their 2024 debut EP, Solitude—Shrineburner expanded into a more dynamic trio in 2025 with the addition of bassist CJ Johnson and new drummer Edward Hamel. Hymns Of Despair balances pitch-black themes of societal decay and religious disillusionment with well-placed embers of melodic hope. The six-track album was tracked and mixed by Matt Russell at Altered States in Chicago, mastered by Hamel at Identity Mastering, and features cover art painted by Joshua Hondros. The band, which features a strong live reputation alongside acts like Conan, Telekinetic Yeti, and Minsk, is highly recommended for fans of Ufomammut, Evoken, and Usnea.
