Während Love Is Not Enough deutlicher in Richtung Metalcore und rohe Gewalt tendiert, fängt das dynamischere Hum Of Hurt den ursprünglich angedachten Noise-Rock-Spirit der Schreibphase ein und bewegt sich eher im Bereich des emotionalen Hardcore mit düsteren Atmosphären. Aufgenommen und gemischt wurde das Album von Gitarrist Kurt Ballou in dessen GodCity-Studio. Das von Bannon und dem Künstler Thomas Hooper entworfene Cover-Artwork verschmilzt ein EKG-Signal mit Seismographie, was die namensgebende Frequenz („Hum“) des Albums visuell widerspiegelt, während das Innendesign die fünf planetaren Elemente im Chaos darstellt.

Bannon clarified that while both albums are closely related, Hum Of Hurt is not a sequel to its predecessor. Musically, while Love Is Not Enough represents a shorter, intensely metal-leaning and violent return to the band's traditional roots, Hum Of Hurt captures more of the band's early noise-rock concept ideas, resulting in a more dynamic, atmospheric, and emotional hardcore statement. The album was recorded and mixed by guitarist Kurt Ballou at his renowned GodCity studio in Salem, Massachusetts. The visual aesthetic for the release features collaborative cover artwork by Bannon and artist Thomas Hooper, blending an EKG heart monitor signal with volatile seismography diagrams to conceptually depict the "Hum".
